This webinar will explore different presentations of malnutrition within mental illness, specifically depression, addiction and eating disorders. We will discuss the differences between refeeding and refeeding syndrome as well as provide information on how to use MNT to treat medical complications that can arise from malnutrition.

Meghan Foley and Shelby Victory have combined 8 years of experience working with patients with severe eating disorders and adult and adolescent psychiatric patients within the clinical setting at Denver Health Medical Center.
Shelby completed both her undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as her Dietetic Internship through Central Michigan University. Shelby started her career as a Registered Dietitian 3 years ago at Denver Health Medical Center. She received exposure and became competent in treating patients suffering from mental health illnesses while covering the inpatient psych unit as well as other general medicine floors. Shelby has currently transitioned to working full time for the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders by Denver Health where she specializes in the nutritional rehabilitation of patients struggling with severe and life-threatening eating disorders.
Meghan became a registered dietitian in 2011, after completing her undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Penn State University followed by her dietetic internship at the Virginia/Maryland WIC Program. She started her career providing high risk nutrition counseling for low income women, infants and children at the Maryland WIC program. She then moved to Denver in 2013, where she became an RD working for Denver Health Medical Center in all areas in the hospital, gaining additional experience in treating multiple disease states, as well as experience in nutrition support. In 2014, she was provided the opportunity to work full time for the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders by Denver Health. She currently is the Nutrition Services Supervisor for ACUTE and continues to cover a clinical caseload as part of her job responsibilities. Her four and a half years at ACUTE have allowed her the opportunity to become an expert in using medical nutrition therapy to help treat severe eating disorders, work on research projects with Dr. Philip Mehler and other members of the multidisciplinary team and assist in the continued growth and expansion of ACUTE.
