BHN Member Spotlight

BHN is proud of its members!
Currently our spotlight shines on:

Destiny Matthews, MS

Current Position

Student blog manager

How long have you been a RDN?

I’m not practicing just yet! I will finish my internship this May!

How long have you been in the Behavior Health Nutrition area?

I have been a student member for about 3 years.

Why did you join BHN?

I had completed an undergraduate thesis project regarding emotional, mental and social health in adolescents with prediabetes. This project opened my eyes to the world of behavioral health, and I realized this was the area I wanted to pursue in my career. And since then, I have found that it is safe to say that behavioral health intersects with every other area of practice.

How has BHN helped you professionally?

In my years as a student member, I have greatly enjoyed participating in educational and networking opportunities like FNCE. I have met many dietitians who opened my eyes to the various areas of practice within BHN and all of the possibilities ahead of our field. I also enjoyed viewing the webinars to deepen my knowledge and stay abreast of what is happening in Behavioral Health. I feel that all of these opportunities will help me to grow as a BHN member but also become a well-rounded dietitian.

A little about me

My passion for nutrition stems from a love of both science and food preparation as well as a strong desire to empower under-served populations including low-income communities and ethnic minorities. I am interested in working in a TBI and spinal cord injury rehabilitation setting.  I chose BHN because I was looking for an organization that enjoys filling the gaps in service to the community just as much as I do.

@speedeeraecer on all platforms (twitter, Instagram, etc.) I am also on Linkedin and Facebook
